There are so many things to write about concerning my recent trip to the Madrid Zoo/Aquarium that I hardly know where to start!  I saw Madrid's new couple, Bing Xing and Hua Zuiba, three times during my four days in Madrid, and met two top officials from Chengdu, including the director of the Chengdu Giant Panda Research Base, Dr. Zhang Zhihe.  But here's a short funny tidbit for now.

When I met the Chengdu officials, accompanying them was a Chinese journalist, who interviewed me for a story to appear in the Chinese press about their trip to Madrid and the people they encountered there.  The story appeared on November 29:   China's Giant Pandas in Madrid touted.  Since I don't speak Chinese, I had to use Google's translation function, which appears here:  China's Giant Pandas in Madrid touted.

It was very special for us (my boyfriend Dave and me) to be in Madrid.  We were in Madrid three days and had come to see the pandas three times.  We did make a special trip to Madrid to see pandas (but he didn't give it to me as a birthday gift, so I'm not sure where that came from.)  I, Paula, am a lawyer, and volunteer with the giant pandas in Washington, DC (although not for two years.)  When asked by the Chengdu official why I was such a "Superfan" of pandas, I replied that pandas make people very happy -- that you can't be sad watching a panda -- and that it was very important to save them from extinction.  On September 6, Mei Lan's birthday, I launched the Pandapoly website.  After seeing the exhibition of photographs from Chengdu, Dave and I were very interested in coming to Chengdu soon.

Those visiting from Chengdu seemed very interested that I would come from the United States from Madrid to visit pandas, calling me a "Superfan."  They issued a warm welcome for me to visit Chengdu, so I can't wait to make that happen!
