Gao Gao

Gao Gao is a male giant panda currently at the San Diego Zoo. Gao Gao arrived from China in January 2003. He was born in the wild, around 1992, and was taken to the Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve in 1993 suffering from injuires which resulted in the loss of nearly two thirds of his left ear.

He is the father of Mei Sheng and Su Lin. He has also recently mated with Bai Yun again which produced another panda cub on 3 August 2007.

On 14 September 2007 Meg Sutherland-Smith of San Diego Zoo, announced that the 6-week-old panda cub is a female, the fourth giant panda born at the zoo — all to Bai Yun and Gao Gao. Chinese custom ordains to name her at 100 days.^[1]
